Group A Dietary Requirements
Referring to the Metabolic Spiral note that there is a progressive change from carbohydrate and vegetable requirements on the extreme left of the graph to balanced carbohydrate/protein in the center to heavy meat and protein requirements on the extreme right. Therefore, locating your type on the graph, gives you an overview of your requirements of carbohydrates versus proteins. The farther you are to the left of center, the greater the carbohydrate requirements. The farther to the right of center, the greater the protein requirements.
In general, Group A types should emphasize carbohydrates over proteins. Most all carbs including vegetables, grains and fruits are good. When eating proteins, the lighter lean meats, poultry, white fish and low fat dairy are best. Eggs are a good source of protein. Fats including oils, almonds, cashews, butter and fatty foods should be minimized.
Weight Loss Guidelines For Carbohydrate-based Metabolisms
For persons utilizing Metabolic Typing for weight loss, we strongly urge you to study The Metabolic Typing Diet by William Wolcott.
Here are a few tips for you to follow in order to maximize the benefit of dieting according to your metabolic type. Also, don’t overlook the Obesity pages of this web site.
1. Minimize the stress in your life as much as possible. Stress causes a release of cortisol, an adrenal hormone which, in turn, leads to the conversion of sugar to fat.
2. Identify your basal metabolic rate (bmr). The bmr is the number of calories you burn in a day if you do no activity, for example, lying on the couch all day. The average bmr is between 1200 and 2000 calories per day. If you eat 500 calories per day less than your bmr, you will lose weight. If you have a slow metabolism under about 1500 calories, we recommend that you nonetheless never reduce your caloric intake below 1000 per day. Most nutritionists and fitness centers have the equipment for you to determine your bmr.
You will find details for understanding calorie counting on our Diabetes pages and an all inclusive list of foods and their caloric content as well as carbohydrate, protein and fat content at www.ntwrks.com/~mikev/chart1.html.
3. Exercise is key to all good health and weight loss is no exception. Please visit the Exercise pages of this web site for more information.
4. Dieting according to your metabolic type dictates that you understand the macronutrient ratios of the foods you eat. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats are called macronutrients. It is imperative that you follow the macronutrient ratio guidelines for your type of metabolism listed below. If you do not, you will not really be using the whole concept of metabolic typing to your advantage.
Macronutrient Ratios for Carbohydrate-based Metabolisms
Carbohydrates: 40-55%
Protein: 25-30%
Fats: 20-30%
These macronutrient percentages are based upon calories, not servings or volume. To understand how to calculate these percentages please again visit the links above cited including Diabetes
The following chart gives you some food and menu ideas:

Other Factors Influencing Your Weight
Is imperative to understand that there can be a number of other factors influencing your weight beyond just dietary. They include thyroid problems, insulin resistance, adrenal gland insufficiency, estrogen imbalance and psychological issues. Eating and supplementing according to your metabolic type will help balance those body systems. However, if you think you may have a problem with any of these body systems, we strongly urge to take the online Comprehensive Health Assessment. The assessment will help you identify health issues beyond diet which may be affecting your weight. You can take the results of the assessment to your alternative physician for his guidance in correcting any problems the assessment uncovers.
Of the Carbohydrate-based group, Type Six's require the most nutritional support, the greatest number and strength of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrutional factors that help the vegetarian type. Type One's require the second greatest nutritional support. Type One's need the support that speeds up the sympathetic nervous system and slows down the parasympathetic nervous system. Type four metabolizers are approaching toward a healthier less extreme metabolism. Type Eleven's need the least nutritional support of the vegetarian class. They are the closest of the four to becoming balanced type metabolizers as you can see from the Metabolic Spiral.
Group A, Type One
The correct supplement formula for Type One is the Metabolic Axiom Group A product.
Group A, Types 1,4,6, and 11 do not digest food well. They only assimilate about 40% of food they do digest. They do not like heavy meats as they cannot digest them well. They do best on fruit and carbohydrates. For nutritional support, Group A metabolizers most often need: Vitamin D; Vitamin K; Ascorbic Acid; Biotin; Folic Acid; Vitamins B1, B2, and B6; PABA; Niacin; Potassium Magnesium; Manganese; Zinc: Chromium; Hydrochloric Acid; Pancreatic Enzymes and Amino Acids. Each of the four types in Group A needs these supplements.
Type One Specifics: One of the chief characteristics is they can burn carbohydrates slowly. They are able to maintain their blood sugar levels with very little fluctuation. They can eat mostly fruits and vegetables, maintaining their health and feeling well. They are what we commonly call vegetarians. When they eat meat they feel groggy and have a loss of energy. They do not do well on lamb, venison, beef, sardines or salmon. They can do quite well with up to 100% of their diet raw. They should stress the following foods:
- whole grains including spaghetti, macaroni, breads, cereals;
- raw (unpasteurized) goats’ milk, eggs;
- white fish.
- spices, 2-3 cups of coffee (non-instant),
- herbal tea,
- an occasional alcoholic beverage
- sweet dessert made with unrefined sugar or raw, unheated honey
- nuts and seeds
- rice
- apples
- bananas
- grapes
- oranges
- pears
- plums
- grapefruit
- asparagus
- lima beans
- beet tops
- cucumbers
- sprouts
- lettuce
- collards
- dandelion greens
- kale
- mustard
- turnip greens
- spinach
- any leafy green vegetable
Group A, Type Four
The correct supplement formula for Type Four is the Metabolic Axiom Group A product.
Group A, Types 1, 4, 6, and 11 do not digest food well.
Type Four Specifics. Type Four people are a little less strict vegetarians than Type Ones. They usually have a genetic background of their ancestors coming from around the Mediterranean Sea. They burn their carbohydrates a little faster than Ones and if they have diabetes can normally control it with diet alone. Most American “vegetarians” fall into this type. They can eat about 60% of their food raw. They normally do not need as much nutritional support in the form of supplements as Types One and Six. They do well on all the foods listed for Type One, just not as much, but also can eat:
- chicken, turkey, other fowl
- occasional beef (twice a week)
- almost all vegetables
- a little fruit
- sprouts
- some citrus
- eggs
- raw unpasteurized goat’s milk.
Group A, Type Six
The correct supplement formula for Type Six is the Metabolic Axiom Group A product.
Group A people do not digest food well.
Type Six Specifics. Type Six people are very poor metabolizers. That is, they they take in their food and nothing much happens. Their bodies do not utilize food well and they get little energy from it. They are often sickly. They almost always feel bad or not up to par. They need about 60% of their food cooked. They need a great deal of supplemental nutritional support. They require more hydrochloric acid, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, etc. than either Types Four, One or Eleven and need to be diligent in taking their supplements.
Type Six metabolizers should give care to the intake of whole and complete natural foods. All refined, processed, synthetic foods and additives must be avoided at all times. Type Six people do best when they stress the following foods in their diets:
- adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables
- lettuce
- green vegetables
- onions
- radishes
- potatoes
- whole grains including spaghetti, macaroni, breads
- gelatin and other desserts made with raw sugar or unheated honey
- natural jams, jellies
- ice creams
- mushrooms
- nuts
- seeds
- fish and fowl preferred over other meats
Group A, Type Eleven
The correct supplement formula for Type Eleven is the Metabolic Axiom Group A product.
Group A people do not digest food well.
Type Eleven Specifics. Type Eleven metabolizers are usually thin in body build, left brain mathematically inclined people with super efficient metabolisms. They need a wide variety of fruits, grains and cheese. They do not need a lot of food and seem to have an unending supply of energy. They can go all day without the need for food. They do not like to be interrupted with such trivial things as meals. They do not require a large quantity of any food but prefer sweets on which they function very well. However, they still need quality nutrition and supplements.
General Characteristics of Group A Sympathetic Dominant, Carbohydrate-based Types 1, 4, 6, and 11
These metabolic types have very strong function of the brain, pineal, anterior pituitary, parathyroid, thyroid and adrenal medulla glands; heart, bone, muscle and connective tissue, kidneys, gonads (ovaries or testes) and uterus or prostate. Their muscles are usually quite well developed and show good muscle tone. Their hearts normally beat a little fast. Constipation is a problem. Frequently insomnia is a problem. They are prone to tension, hyperactivity and drive.
Sympathetic dominant types do not digest their food well. They do not like heavy meats because they do not digest them well. They do best on fruit and carbohydrates. They like their sweets. At a cafeteria you will observe them take a few vegetables and load up on desserts. Sweets are easily assimilated and give them outstanding energy.
